Participation

We believe that creativity thrives through diversity.

Our community is represented by students from 80 countries around the world, each bringing their own social and cultural perspectives. But the GSA is diverse not solely because of the international nature of our student community, but because of the diversity of our local students.

THE SCHOOL OF DESIGN PERFORMS CONSISTENTLY WELL IN TERMS OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC DIVERSITY. IN 2020 – 2021 48% OF MATRICULATING SCOTTISH STUDENTS WERE FROM THE LOWEST SOCIO-ECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS. THE SCHOOL OF DESIGN IS THE STRONGEST PERFORMER ACROSS THE GSA IN MEETING OUR OVERALL WIDENING PARTICIPATION TARGETS AGREED ANNUALLY WITH THE SCOTTISH FUNDING COUNCIL.

The School of Design also works closely with a number of colleges providing access to art school through articulation, and has a formal Associate Students’ partnership with Glasgow Clyde College with all programmes involved except Product Design Engineering.  Progression from college to Interior Design and Textiles are particularly well received and working with the GSA’s Widening Participation and Articulation staff, further progression routes from colleges have been identified and progressing to be formalised in the coming years.  2020 saw the GSA’s second cohort of graduates from the Associate Students’ partnerships, with five of the 12 graduating students coming from the School of Design.
